Boomwriter is a central hub for teachers to organize and assign writing activities, student journals, and even collaborative story books.
Students can be added to BoomWriter through invitation, csv, or distributed link. Once students are associated to a class the teacher can create individual assignments for the students via the class dashboard.
Teachers can select from Story Book, Student Journal, or Other Assignment on the "New Activity" page.
Student Journal and Other Assignment are simple individual writing assignments, but Story Book is what we will focus on with this walkthrough.
After you select Story Book you will be prompted to assign a story start. Story starts are short introductions(1-2 pages) that start the story. Students are then told to write the next chapter of the tale.
Pre-filled story starts are searchable by title, genre, and level.
After you select your story start be sure to select the intended number of chapters to assign.
Students submit the next chapter in the tale and are given the opportunity to vote for their favorite. The submission with the most votes is selected as the next chapter of the story and the story continues.
This process repeats with anonymous voting continuing until students reach the last chapter.
Each student writes their own ending to the collaborative story. The class can still vote anonymously on their favorite, though each ending can be published. Each student's completed story, including the finale that they wrote, can be purchased as a physical book.
Beyond the physical copies of the book BoomWriter includes a certificate generator for students to receive recognition without the need to purchase.
